Handline Fishing FIELD MANUAL

In 2025, I took the techniques I'd developed over 7 years of handlining and turned them into the Handline Fishing Field Manual, an homage to the Merit Badge manuals I learned from as a Boy Scout. In addition to the book, I also designed a Field Patch for handline fishing, an embroidered iron-on patch that reflects the simple and evocative designs of Boy Scout Merit Badges. 

Developed in Adobe InDesign and printed and bound locally in Pittsburgh, this booklet contains over 70 pages of copy and photography covering all aspects of handline fishing, including knots, tackle, and casting and reeling techniques. The book also features photos from Daggerfish customers showcasing handline fishing techniques in the wild. 

With links to supporting videos and other content throughout the book, and a checklist of essential skills for handlining, the Field Manual is designed to help anyone from a complete beginner to an experienced angler understand and master the techniques of handline fishing.
